Be Consistent Using These 5 Steps

Consistency is something that can be very rewarding. Yet many of us do something for a period of time and then we tend to stop doing it regularly or in the worst case we completely stop. Why is this? Is it because we’re too lazy, or do we just not care enough?

How can you be consistent and actually complete what you started doing? It may be going to the gym 6 days a week or finishing a book you started; whatever it may be, you do want to finish it and achieve your goals and be successful, but this will require consistency.

Read the whole blog and you will find out how you can start being more consistent and love doing so. It may not be easy but it’s not going to be really tough either.

You just need to hang in there and not give up, and you will see how fulfilling it is to be consistent!

Here are 5 steps to achieve consistency:

1) Increase Your Desire

The key to being successful and consistent at something is to have a burning desire to get what you want. Most of us fail to be consistent because we fail to have a very strong desire.

You are most likely not going to something with a hundred per cent dedication if you don’t want it a hundred per cent; it’s as simple as that.

Ask yourself if this is something that you desire very much. And when you do want it a hundred percent then you will be willing to go the extra mile and make the effort every day to actually get what you want. You will also find it to be enjoyable and fulfilling when you’re working towards getting the want you always wanted.

2) Push or pull?

Is something pushing you to do it or do you want this because your desire is so strong that it’s pulling you towards it?

When you push yourself, you use your willpower and willpower never lasts; what will last is some desire that pulls you towards it. Something that inspires you or something that you really want in your life to be happier or successful.

It can be anything. Just make sure it’s something that pulls you to do it. You can definitely do something that pushes you towards your goal, but this just may not be enjoyable as this push may be in the form of fear. Like the fear of not being successful or the fear of being left out, etc. Don’t let fear push you. Just have a strong desire and you will be able to feel the pull force.

3) Focus On Going Slow

Consistency requires gradual improvement over a period of time. Don’t rush into things. We all require some time to get used to things so ease yourself into it.

Little improvement day by day leads to big results in the future. Improving 1% a day for 30 days is better than improving 5% for 3 days and just stopping because “it’s too much to handle”.

So be patient because consistency is a daily process. And remember that consistency is a marathon, not a sprint.

4) Don’t Quit, Give It All You Got

Don’t stop yourself from doing what you set out to do. Yes, we all have bad days and it’s not easy to do something every day. But you can still do as much as you can without pushing yourself.

Even if it’s for 10 mins, just do it. This not only gives you the satisfaction of doing work, but you also don’t stop doing the work which is really important. You also made progress which is important.

When the days get hard to continue, just do the minimum. But don’t stop.

5) Don’t Let The Failures Get To You

No one is perfect. Failures and setbacks are a part of life and you are bound to have a few in your journey. Don’t be put down if you find it too hard to keep going forward.

We all have those days where we want to quit and we feel let down by ourselves or low. It happens to everyone. Don’t let those thoughts affect the efforts you put in. You haven’t failed until you quit.

And if you feel like quitting just remember why you started in the first place. Keep your emotions aside and just do your best.

It’s okay to not do your work for a day or two when it gets really tough. But just don’t make it a habit.

6. Take It One Day At A Time

Many of us think too much about the future and get anxious about the amount of work and effort that needs to be put in. This can feel daunting and can also lead to negative thoughts which hinder our progress.

The best way to avoid this is to only think about the present day and what you need to do today.

The fact is that no matter how much we think about the future, we can’t make it better. but we do have the power to make an impact today. So it’s best that we focus on today’s tasks.

Tips and Points To Remember:

  • Consistency is easier when you are doing something you love.
  • Dream big and you will have a good chance of being consistent.
  • Do not focus on the result. Focus on the process.
  • Set specific goals and take action every day to achieve those goals.
  • Focus on completing one thing and then go to the next task.
  • Have a to-do list and strike it out when you’ve accomplished your goal.
